Telemetry

DevGuard sends a small event when it starts. It tells us which versions are in use, so we know e.g. which ones still need security patches. This page lists exactly what is sent and how to turn it off.

What is sent

Each time the API server or the scanner starts, it sends one request to https://umami.l3montree.com/api/send. Nothing is sent while it runs.

The API server sends the DevGuard version, the number of organizations, projects and assets, and the number of components per ecosystem (for example npm or golang).

The scanner sends the DevGuard version, the operating system, the CPU architecture, whether it runs in CI and the name of the command (for example sca).

Both also send an instance ID, so restarts of the same installation are counted once. For the API server it is a hash of your frontend URL, database host and database name. For the scanner it is a hash of the API host, operating system and architecture. The values themselves are never sent.

DevGuard never sends user, organization, project or repository names, package names, vulnerabilities or scan results.

If your network blocks outgoing traffic, the request fails and DevGuard logs a warning. Everything else keeps working.

Turn it off

Set DEVGUARD_TELEMETRY_DISABLED to true. This works for the API server and the scanner. On startup the log then shows DevGuard startup telemetry is disabled.

Helm

Add the variable to the values.yaml of your Helm deployment:

Docker Compose

Add the variable to the environment section of the API service in the compose.yaml of your Docker Compose deployment:

GitLab CI

Add it as a CI/CD variable in your project or group settings, or at the top of your GitLab CI pipeline file:
