Description

Summary

The function list_html generates a file view of a folder without sanitizing the files or folders names, potentially leading to XSS in cases where a website allows access to public files using this feature, allowing anyone to upload a file.

Details

The vulnerable snippet of code is the following: dir.rs

// ... fn list_html(...
        let mut link = "".to_owned();
        format!(
            r#"<a href="/">{}</a>{}"#,
            HOME_ICON,
            segments
                .map(|seg| {
                    link = format!("{link}/{seg}");
                    format!("/<a href=\"{link}\">{seg}</a>")
                })
                .collect::<Vec<_>>()
                .join("")
        )
// ...

Impact

JavaScript execution, most likely leading to an account takeover, depending on the site's constraint (CSP, etc…).

Risk Scores
Base Score
8.8

The vulnerability can be exploited over the network without needing physical access. It is easy for an attacker to exploit this vulnerability. An attacker does not need any special privileges or access rights. The attacker needs the user to perform some action, like clicking a link. The vulnerability can affect other systems as well, not just the initial system. There is a high impact on the confidentiality of the information. There is a low impact on the integrity of the data. There is a low impact on the availability of the system.

Threat Intelligence
8.1

Exploitation activity has been observed. Apply available patches or mitigations urgently.

EPSS
0.30%

The exploit probability is very low. The vulnerability is unlikely to be exploited in the next 30 days.
